Noreen Mahoney, MPT - Physical Therapy Program Coordinator

Noreen graduated from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia in 2004 with a Bachelors Degree in the Health Sciences and a Masters Degree in Physical Therapy.  Noreen is currently attending the University of Medicine and Dentistry in New Jersey to obtain her Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree.

Noreen has clinical experience in the outpatient, inpatient and aquatic rehabilitation settings.  Her primary interest areas include treatment of sports and orthopedic injuries, work-related conditions, balance training, and arthritis management.  Her clinical skills are equally matched by her dynamic, energetic, and enthusiastic nature.  Her strong professional ethics, dedication and warm compassion support the basic philososphy at Accent on Hands.

Annette Krell MS, OTR, CHT - Director/Certified Hand Therapist

In February 2005, after twenty-six years of experience as a Hand Therapist and Occupational Therapist, Annette founded Accent on Hands & Comprehensive Physical Therapy.  Her strong professional ethics, compassion, and dedication inspire patients to reach their maximum functional potential.

She received a Masters of Science Degree in 1980 from the College of Physicians & Surgeons at Columbia University.  Upon graduation, she began working at the Manhattan V.A. Medical Center where she developed the Hand Therapy Program.  From there, she accepted a position at the prestigious Hospital for Special Surgery and treated patients requiring complex reconstructive surgery.

After moving to New Jersey, she continued providing Hand Therapy services at a variety of doctor and therapist owned private facilities.  Her experience includes teaching Occupational Therapy students at Kean University, as well as mentoring students in the clinical setting.  She is an active member of many professional organizations including:  AOTA, NJOTA, ASHT, and the American Arthritis Foundation.  Annette regularly attends continuing education workshops and seminars in order to provide state-of-the-art treatment techniques at Accent on Hands & Comprehensive Physical Therapy.

Annette has been a community member of Westfield since 1988 where she resides with her husband and three sons.

Joseph R. Basante, MA, MS, OTR/L, CHT, CEAS - Certified Hand Therapist

Joe joined the staff of Accent On Hands and Comprehensive Physical Therapy in January 2007. His unique and specialized training is a tremendous asset to the ongoing programs.

He received a Bachelors of Science degree in Physical Education and Individualized Motor Learning from Slippery Rock University in 1982. He continued his education at Montclair State University and earned a Masters of Art degree in Exercise Science in 1991. His experience includes fifteen years as an exercise physiologist, Vice-President and Director of Training at Plus One Fitness and Physical Therapy in Manhattan, and strength and conditioning coaching at the collegiate level. In addition, he has served as a consultant on the professional sports team level.

James J. O'Shea, OTR, CHT - Certified Hand Therapist

Jim has been a Hand Therapist at Accent on Hands since December 2006.

Immediately upon graduating from Quinnipiac University in 2001 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy, he began to pursue his passion for hand and upper extremity rehabilitation. He served as a full time Occupational Therapist on the outpatient and inpatients units at CentraState Medical Center. His caseload included orthopedic and neurologic patients, multiple trauma cases, lymphedema management and various hand disorders. After intensive coursework and studies, he earned national certification in lymphedema management (CLT-LANA) from the Lymphology Association of North America in 2004. He later qualified for specialization in Hand Therapy and achieved Certification from the Hand Therapy Certification Commission in 2006. He is an active member of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), the Lymphology Association of North America (LANA), and the American Society of Hand Therapists (ASHT).

In 1999, he furthered his education at College Miscericordia and received a Masters of Science degree in Occupational Therapy. Since that time, he has earned additional professional distinction as a Certified Ergonomic Assessment Specialist (CEAS) in 2003, and a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) in 2005. His experience includes working as an Occupational Therapist at New York Medical College/Metropolitan Hospital - Manhattan, Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in West Orange, New Jersey and various Hand Therapy Clinics in New Jersey. He has presented at regional and national conferences for the American College of Sports Medicine, and the International Association of Fitness Professionals (IDEA). Worksite ergonomics, cumulative trauma, and musculoskeletal disorders were the focus of his presentations provided for Toys R Us, Merck, and USF Red Star Trucking Companies.

His varied background allows him to provide a comprehensive approach to Hand and Upper Extremity Rehabilitation. His dedication and concern for his patients is apparent with each treatment session rendered, as he strives for one hundred percent goal achievement.

Joe currently resides in Woodbridge Township with his wife and son.

As a licensed Physical Therapist of New Jersey, Noreen strives to evaluate and treat all patients by utilizing the most current concepts and evidence, while using her best clinical judgement.  She atttends regular continuing education seminars to enhance her knowledge and clinical skills.  Noreen is also an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association.

At Accent on Hands, Noreen provides a unique approach to physical therapy, with focus on "one on one" treatments, "hands-on" techniques, and the ultimate goal of nurturing patients to levels of optimal function.

His two specialization certifications, patient care experience, continuing education course work, and warm welcoming demeanor are tremendous assets to our patients at Accent On Hands. He continues to provide comprehensive Hand Therapy for all upper extremity diagnoses in addition to serving as the Accent On Hands Lymphedema Management program developer and specialist.
